Essential Acupoints for Immunity: Sp6, SanYinJiao
Sp6 - The name of this point is San Yin Jiao, which means Three Yin Intersection. This is a reference to the channels that share this location as an acupoint, which are the three yin channels in the leg: Kidney, Liver, and Spleen, the latter receiving the strongest action from use of this point. Because it influences multiple channels, it has a wide variety of uses associated with disharmony from these organs, ranging from insomnia, depression, stress and anxiety, digestive upset, menstrual challenges, fertility, and of course, immune health. In one particular study, it was among a small handful of points that were shown to increase immune function and inhibit tumor growth in subjects with liver or stomach cancer. Studies also show it’s effectiveness to reduce labor duration and pain. Traditionally, it is also one of the go-to points for feeling bogged down physically, emotionally, and mentally, hence it helps alleviate fatigue and feelings of glum, and helps clarify the mind. It’s a much loved acupoint among us acupunks, and is used often in my clinic.
