Essential Acupoints for Immune Health: Lu7, Lieque
Lu7 - Another favorite acupoint to keep you healthy through the cold/flu season. Lieque, which translates as Broken Sequence, is traditionally in reference to the jagged shape of a lightning bolt, valued for it’s ability to clear the lungs of congestion similar to how a lightning storm clears a cloudy sky. It is also potentially called this because it’s a point that deviates away from the otherwise smooth path of the lung channel, and can also generate a brief electrical sensation with stimulation. From a Chinese Medicine point of view, it’s used to clear exterior wind, which is a concept that has similar presentation to the symptomatic presentation of common cold and flu. It’s also indicated for sore throat, cough, phlegm and congestion, headache, and restriction/pain in the nape of the neck, which is often an early symptom at the onset of of a cold or flu. It’s one of the most utilized points for lung health, and holds value among ancient scholars and modern practitioners alike as one of the most vital acupuncture points in the body. Beyond acquired respiratory infections, acupuncture with this point or others on the lung channel, has also shown through clinical research to help improve well-being and health among lung related challenges such as cancer, allergies, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and more.
